You are not broken: Returning to Wholeness
You Are Not Broken
Society likes to tell us that we are broken. That if we only had whiter teeth, six pack abs, more money, the perfect house, or a flawless outlook on life, we would finally attain that elusive feeling of success—as if we had reached the pinnacle of our potential.
Entire industries are built on convincing us we aren’t okay as we are. They whisper that if we just tried harder, bought the right product, or pushed a little more, then we would be happy.
But here’s the truth: you are not broken. You are already whole.
Remembering Wholeness
I’m not saying that working on yourself is wrong. Growth is natural and beautiful. But starting from the belief that you are broken is a false foundation.
The reality is that you came into this world perfect, whole, and complete. Even if your body or circumstances didn’t fit society’s definition of perfection, your essence—the life force that makes you you—was, and still is, untouched and whole.
The hardest and most transformative thing you can do is to accept yourself, fully, right here, right now.
I’ve been doing my own work on this lately. Recently, I found myself slipping into a depressive mood. I’ve been there before, many times, but this time I had strategies that helped me pull myself out of the funk.
You see, I too have struggles. I don’t think a single person in this world can claim to be completely free of problems—and if they do, they’re probably in serious denial.
As someone who shares mindfulness practices and holistic tools with others, it’s important that I walk the walk, not just talk the talk. I won’t go into the personal details of my recent descent into negative thinking, projection, and catastrophizing, but I do want to share what helped me reconnect with myself:
Hypnosis
Yoga Nidra
Breathwork
Regular exercise
Journaling
Energy work
It wasn’t easy. Through the help of my hypnotherapist, I was able to recalibrate my thoughts and emotions, releasing negative beliefs and patterns that were keeping me stuck. It was gut-wrenching, emotional, and hard work—but in the end, I felt lighter, brighter, and much more optimistic.
One thing my hypnotherapist kept reminding me throughout this process was simple, yet powerful:
“Well, the good news is, you are not broken.”
Hearing that, again and again, helped me remember the truth I sometimes forget: we are never truly broken—we just sometimes lose touch with our wholeness.
This little journey reminded me how difficult it can be to pull yourself out of a funk, even when you have all the tools at your disposal. And it also reminded me that every step—no matter how small—is part of returning to our wholeness.
Practices That Help Us Reconnect
Suffering comes from being disconnected from our true selves. The more separated we feel, the more we struggle.
Practices like meditation, Yoga Nidra, hypnosis, energy work, massage, movement, breathwork, and time in nature all share the same purpose: aligning us back to our essence—reminding us of who we truly are.
In my practice, I don’t see people as broken. I see them as whole beings who may have slipped out of alignment. My role is to help guide them back to the ineffable, unshakable part of themselves that has never been damaged.
